Clone Repository gets IntelliJ's layout: a source list on the left, a version-control selector, URL history, a directory picker, and a shallow-clone option (history truncated to N commits, git clone --depth N). Entries for hosting platforms without backend support were removed.

Branch and tag labels in the commit details pane inherited the graph row's 180px single-line limit and were clipped. Labels in the details metadata now use the pane width and wrap, including names without break points; graph-row labels keep their single-line ellipsis.

`@{u}..HEAD` fatally fails when the tracking config remains but the
remote-tracking ref is gone (the upstream branch was deleted on the
remote and the fetch pruned): the repository was dropped from the
multi-repository Push dialog, or, when every repository failed, the
dialog showed the raw fatal and disabled Push. Fall back to recent
history like the single-repository dialog does, so the branch stays
listed and pushable (a plain push recreates the remote branch).
In Chinese the Update Project notification read "已在 2 commits 中更新 3 files" and the Hot Swap result "已重新加载 3 classes". Both sentences were translated, but the counts inside them were English phrases passed in as placeholder values, which are only looked up as exact catalog entries.
Each count is now its own source text per variant (`{count} file` / `{count} files`, `{count} commit` / `{count} commits`, `{count} class` / `{count} classes`), built in the current language before it goes into the sentence. These were the only two places where a translated sentence receives an English count phrase as a value.
After a push the notification only said "Push successful". It now says what went out, for example "Pushed 3 commits to origin/main", counting the commits the branch was ahead of its upstream before the push. This covers Push and pushing a branch to its own upstream. A push across several repositories stays generic unless exactly one of them had commits to send. The title is translated as a whole for each count.

The changes tree in the Commit and Local Changes views now gives test files a light green background, so test changes stand out from production ones. A file counts as a test when it lies under a test source root (detected or marked by hand) or is named like a test (`*.test.ts`, `*Test.java`, …), the same check the project tree uses; folders under a test root get the tint too. Hover and selection still win.
The colour is a new `--bg-file-tests` token derived from `--success` and `--bg-island`, so every theme gets a matching tint, and it follows test roots as they are marked or unmarked.

The Local Changes tab of the Git tool window showed only the changes tree; a file's diff was visible only after opening a diff tab.
It now previews the selected file's working-tree diff beside the tree when the window is docked at the bottom and below it when docked on a side. The preview follows the selection (arrow keys included), shows a placeholder for no or multiple selection, and can be turned off with View Options › Show Diff Preview (persisted; the selection is kept when toggling).
The preview reuses the diff editor, whose toolbar did not fit a side-docked window: the editor is now a size container, the whitespace and highlighting pickers move to the settings menu below 640px and the separators go below 380px, buttons no longer shrink and the differences counter truncates.

Root cause: shelved file paths are relative to the repository they were shelved from, but Compare with Local, Show Diff, navigation and Unshelve joined them to the selected VCS root. In a project folder that is not itself a repository (or holds several), the local file was not found and Compare with Local stayed disabled. Shelves now record their repository (older shelves fall back to the primary repository), imported patches record the current one, and every shelf action resolves paths against it, with Windows separators handled. Stash and Apply Patch already kept their repository.

Scrolling a pane set the other two panes' scrollTop; their scroll events arrived a frame later, after the sync guard was cleared, were taken as user scrolls and written back, so the pane being scrolled was pulled back. Sync now maps positions by content and ignores the echoes of its own writes; a pane that cannot scroll no longer drags the others. Next/Previous Difference (F7 / Shift+F7) go through the keymap instead of a fixed key handler. Fixes#744.
Show the current line's author, relative date and commit summary as a dimmed hint after the line end, with the full message, date and hash on hover and the commit opened on click. Uncommitted lines read "You, now · Uncommitted changes". Reuses the blame command with a per-version cache and a debounced caret; skipped outside repositories, for untracked/ignored and very large files. Off by default: Settings › Version Control › Git › Show inline blame for the current line. Fixes#742.
Two folders can now be compared from the project view (Compare Directories with two folders selected, or Compare With… on one folder, also in Find Action). The result tree marks entries as only on left, only on right, contents differ or identical, with a name filter and a show-identical toggle; double-click opens the existing diff editor, and files or whole subdirectories can be copied to either side (overwrite and delete ask first, extra files in the target are kept). Comparison runs in the background with progress and cancel, honours the project's exclusions, and works for remote projects through the same file commands.
The comparison tree and diff preview are shared with the Git folder/revision comparison.
Verified on macOS (subdirectories, Chinese names, binary files, copy both ways, delete, cancel on large files); Windows and Linux not run.
Fixes#520
Compare with Branch or Revision only handled one file, so reviewing a folder meant opening each file. Folders, the project root and multiple selections now open a changes tree against the chosen revision, with per-file diffs on demand. A single file keeps its direct diff.
Each path resolves against its own repository through the root registry. In a multi-repo workspace the picker offers shared revisions such as "main in 3 repositories" as well as per-repository ones, results are grouped by repository, and content outside any repository or a repository missing the revision is stated in the result. Listing is cancellable and off the UI thread, includes worktree and untracked changes, and a rename leaving the selection shows as a delete. Show Diff on folders reuses the same tree.
Verified on macOS, and against a remote host over the server protocol. A remote window, Windows and Linux were not run.
Fixes#567
Find in Files from the keyboard ignored the selected folder and reused the saved scope; only the context menu passed a directory.
Focused trees now publish the selected folder, or a file's parent, as an action context, and Find and Replace in Files use it when no explicit directory is given. This covers the Project view, Commit and Changes, Bookmarks and Scratches. Group rows and editor focus keep the previous behaviour.
Fixes#526
The shelf could only unshelve or delete a whole changelist, and could not show what it contained: file selection lost its scope and shelf data was not connected to the diff and patch workflows.
The context menu now has Show Diff, Show Diff in a New Tab, Compare with Local, Create Patch, Copy as Patch to Clipboard and Import Patches, alongside Unshelve, Rename and Delete. Actions on a file node apply to that file only, including unshelve and delete. Diffs use the base saved with the shelf, and quoted, added, deleted and binary files are handled.

- Filters that do not fit the toolbar move behind a chevron that lists
them, so the action buttons on the right stay visible.
- Commits on the current branch are tinted unless the log is filtered to
that branch, instead of dimming the others only when other branches
happen to be loaded.
- The HEAD commit is drawn as a ring around a dot.
- A wide graph no longer paints the subject and references over the
author column; references shrink down to their icon.
- Scrollbar thumbs keep a minimum length on long lists.
Replaces the Pull Requests tool window with a full review workflow on top of gh's authentication.
- List with search, quick filters and paging; a tab per pull request and a New Pull Request tab.
- Details: commit picker, changes tree with viewed state, CI and reviewer status, merge, close and reopen.
- Timeline editor: comments, review threads, reactions and suggested changes.
- Review in the diff viewer and, for the checked-out branch, in the editor (review mode).
- New generic vcs extension points: registerDiffViewerProvider, lineInlays, reviewGutter, branch widget extensions; new vcs_merge_base and gh_api commands.
- CSP: img-src allows https://avatars.githubusercontent.com for avatars.
Fixed while testing against a real repository: remotes behind an SSH host alias, mergeability stuck on UNKNOWN, Apply Locally staying disabled after a checkout, relative links navigating the app's page, and review inlays wider than the pane.

The context menu of a change list's header offered only commit, list management, shelve and patch actions, so rolling back or staging a whole list meant selecting every entry first. Rollback, Stage and Unstage now act on exactly that list's files, with the same enablement as file and directory nodes: Stage is disabled when nothing is unstaged, Unstage when nothing is staged.

The merge view blamed both side panes against HEAD, so lines that only exist on the merged branch showed as Not Committed Yet. vcs_blame takes an optional revision (validated, passed to git blame --contents -); the merge view blames Yours on HEAD and Theirs on MERGE_HEAD (swapped during a rebase).

The Push dialog had a fixed size and listed every repository's outgoing commits flat. On Windows and Linux, Ctrl+C in the Run/Debug consoles and other DOM output views did nothing because no handler copied the selection. Each output view (Run and Debug consoles, Build output and message detail, Git console, database output, Docker logs) now copies its own selection on Ctrl+C / Ctrl+Insert (Cmd+C on macOS) through a shared helper, leaving views with their own copy handling (database grid, Problems) untouched. In terminals, Ctrl+C copies a selection on Windows and Linux and otherwise interrupts; on macOS it always interrupts. The console menu shows the host's copy shortcut.

- Git › Show History is offered for folders, multi-selection and the project root, not just single files.
- The Push dialog lets you pick any configured remote; pushing to another remote keeps the upstream's branch name and shows outgoing commits against that remote's branch.
- The Changes toolbar gains New Changelist (changelists already supported new/edit/delete/set active/move).
- Compare with Current gains Show Diff, opening the whole-project diff between the branch and HEAD.
- Merge view: F7 / Shift+F7 navigate conflicts, the three panes scroll together, and each side pane can be annotated with Git Blame of its own content.

Unversioned files and folders in the Commit tool window's changes menu offer Add to .gitignore / Add to .git/info/exclude, the same action as the Project view's Git submenu. vcs_add_to_ignore returns the ignore files it changed and the IDE opens the nearest one after writing. A selected symlink or Windows junction is ignored by name without a trailing slash; symlinked ancestors are still refused, and already-ignored paths are left unchanged.

With a project open, the app became slow and then unresponsive after 30-60 minutes. Git status writes refreshed stat data back to .git/index; the watcher reported that write as a file change and a VCS change; the UI scheduled another status ~250 ms later, which wrote the index again. With any stat-dirty file this never settled: a full status, IPC traffic and decoration rebuilds in an endless loop.
Watcher batches now carry .git internals separately (FsBatch.vcs), so they no longer appear as worktree changes and no fsChanged is sent for .git-only batches. Status records the identity (size, mtime) of the index it writes, and the host skips VcsChanged only for that write; external index changes (git add / reset / stash from a terminal) and HEAD / refs / packed-refs changes still refresh as before. The UI's fsChanged handler also ignores .git-only batches.

Git Log ref labels use an outlined tag glyph in the ref colour instead of a solid flag; log rows are 26px with wider graph lanes and larger nodes. Excluded folders in the project tree get a tinted row background (Tree gains an optional rowClassName). The favorite star is a rounder shape, and the filled one has no separate outline stroke.
Opens .ipynb files in a native notebook editor, in a project or LightEdit.
- crates/ide-notebook: lossless nbformat documents (unchanged notebooks save byte-for-byte, unknown fields kept, external changes detected) and owned local kernels over ZMQ via kernelspec — the selected Python environment only needs ipykernel, no Jupyter server.
- ide-host owns notebook documents per project incarnation and admits one execution batch at a time; outputs stream over IPC channels and kernel status is an IdeEvent.
- src/features/notebook: virtualized Python/Markdown cells, insert/delete/move/change type, Run Cell / Run All (Shift+Enter), interrupt, restart, interpreter selection from ide-sdk discovery, shared split views. Raw/unknown cells stay read-only.
- Custom editor kinds take part in dirty state, save/save all, undo/redo and Save/Don't Save/Cancel; closing editors from other features awaits that decision.
- Outputs: text, tracebacks, PNG/JPEG and sanitized SVG inline; HTML sanitized in a sandboxed iframe without allow-same-origin; JavaScript output is shown as inert source.
- Explicit launches (opening a notebook from the OS) win over session restoration.

* feat(vcs): IDEA's diff algorithm and change colouring in the diff viewer
Port IntelliJ's text comparison to TypeScript (src/features/vcs/comparison):
Myers/patience LCS with unique-element discarding, ByLine (smart matching
that skips unimportant lines, chunk optimizer, second-step correction),
ByWord (word chunks, punctuation matching, whitespace policies, line block
splitting) and ComparisonManager's compareLinesInner / processBlocks. The
port runs IntelliJ's own LineComparisonUtilTest, WordComparisonUtilTest and
SplitComparisonUtilTest cases (459 runs), converted to ideaCases.json.
MergeView chunks now come straight from these line fragments, with the
inner word fragments as chunk changes, instead of @codemirror/merge's
presentable diff. Revert and >> / << replace lines as
DiffUtil.applyModification does.
Colour changes as IDEA does: modified (blue), inserted (green) and deleted
(grey) by chunk type, a lighter line background for chunks whose words were
compared, each word fragment in its own type at full line height, a thin
bar for a fragment empty on one side, and the colours carried into the
gutters and the divider bands. New --diff-modified / --diff-inserted /
--diff-deleted theme tokens, imported from .icls DIFF_* attributes.
Add a Playwright suite over a generated git repository of diff cases,
including 10,000-line files, in every viewer mode.

The VCS viewers (diff, merge, local history) hard-coded the default mono

The Git tool window followed one globally selected repository even when multiple roots were registered. Aggregate repository logs and branches, preserve repository identity in selections, history tabs, stashes, diffs and patch commands, and capture repository targets for delayed operations and dialogs. Validate tag names against the captured repository.
Fixes#195
The side-by-side diff gets two independent options. Synchronize Scrolling (toolbar lock, also in the settings menu, on by default) scrolls both panes together; Align Changes (settings menu, off by default) pads the panes so changes line up. With Align Changes off, the panes keep their own heights and a divider of curved bands joins each change, with arrows to apply it; scrolling one pane moves the other through the matching change (anchored at a third of the height), including caret moves and the wheel over the divider. Scroll mapping and the divider look up changes by binary search, so large files with thousands of changes scroll smoothly.

* feat(vcs): Preview the selected file's diff in the Git Log
Selecting a single changed file in the Git Log's changes pane shows its diff
in the editor's preview tab without taking focus, so arrow keys walk through
the files. View Options › Show Diff Preview turns it off; double-click and
Show Diff still open a regular diff tab.
* fix(vcs): Skip the Git Log diff preview when it cannot open
Background tasks often couldn't be cancelled, or cancelling didn't stop them:
- A cancel that arrived before the backend registered the request was dropped (build while saving files, multi-repository fetch/pull between repositories). The host now remembers early cancels (bounded, 2 min), and request ids start at a random value per page.
- There was no queue and no common cancel path: backend-reported tasks (LSP progress, deployment transfers) couldn't be cancelled, and tool installs, VCS operations and update checks had no cancel button in Background Tasks.
- Only the direct child process was killed, and JDK / tool archives were extracted without checking for cancellation.
Tool installs and JDK downloads now share a downloads queue; cancelling a queued task removes it without starting any work. Every task cancels through one path that shows "Cancelling…" and then removes it; tasks that can't be interrupted show a disabled cancel button with the reason. IdeEvent::Task carries `cancellable` with a cancel_task command, cancellable LSP progress sends window/workDoneProgress/cancel, installers, curl and tar run in their own process group and are killed as a group, and extraction checks for cancellation between entries.

other side of a side-by-side diff (⌃⌘→ / ⌃⌘← on macOS, Ctrl+Alt+R /

The main Log tab opened with no branch filter and showed all branches. It now starts on HEAD (Current Branch), which follows checkouts, and a branch filter the user picks (including multi-selection and all branches) is remembered per repository across restarts, stored with the other per-repository Git UI state. Remembered refs that no longer exist are dropped, falling back to HEAD when none are left. Also fixes the first checkout or commit after opening the Log not refreshing it.

Read-only revision panes inherited the workbench's user-select: none and had no tab stop, so text couldn't be selected with the mouse or keyboard or copied. The viewer content now allows text selection and read-only panes take focus; editing stays blocked.
Once focusable, these panes picked up CodeMirror's dark-theme focused selection colour, which outranked the viewer's rule and made selected text unreadable in light themes; the viewer's selection rule now matches that specificity.

Multi-repo branch popup matches actions by their translated label (highlights and Chinese search now work) and translates its group headers. Conflict counts, relative times (shared dateFormat), in-progress operation titles, git operation progress/results, branch widget tooltips, diff/hunk counts, worktree markers, PR author line and review placeholders go through tx; the default "Changes" changelist shows its translated name. HexViewer read-only leaves the untranslated allowlist. 92 zh entries.

Hard-coded UI text, titles and aria-labels in about 110 components (Git panels, hierarchy, pull requests, dialogs, settings, welcome) now go through tx; spliced fragments became whole sentences (fileCount, noneFoundLabel, hierarchyTitle) and pull request states use keyed messages. 225 zh entries added, stale fragment entries removed.
Also: tx used as a tag without interpolations (tx`No checks`) now looks the text up exactly instead of as a template, so it is translated like tx("No checks"); the text-catalog test checks such tags as plain literals. Check and test counts reuse the existing "{count} passed" / "{failed} failing" entries.
