The updater swaps the whole app bundle, and tauri::process::restart then opens the new bundle with `open -n` while the old process is still alive, so the Dock gives the new instance its own tile and leaves the pinned one stopped. Restart on macOS now hands the relaunch to a detached shell that waits for this process to exit before opening the bundle. This covers every restart path (updates and Invalidate Caches › Restart); Windows and Linux keep Tauri's restart.
* fix(window): give a fullscreen project window group its own Space on macOS
A grouped window went fullscreen through simple fullscreen: it covered the current desktop
instead of opening a Space, kept its window frame and rounded corners, and the menu bar stayed
over the tab bar. The selected member now enters native fullscreen as the group's host and the
other members join its Space as borderless auxiliary windows over the host's frame, so switching
projects still only shows one window and hides the others. A project opened over the group joins
it hidden and appears in that Space, without the window-state plugin restoring a fullscreen state
its label kept. Closing the host hands the Space to the next tab once the old one is gone, and a
tab moved to a new window stays fullscreen in a Space of its own.
* fix(window): keep a fullscreen group's frames unsynced on Windows and Linux
fullscreen_host is always None off macOS, so dropping the selected window's own fullscreen check
let a fullscreen group copy its frame to the hidden tabs there, taking fullscreen from the visible one.
Plugin API 1.2 adds `ui.set-context(key, value)` and `ui.remove-context(key)`: a plugin sets `plugin.<id>.<key>` for `when` clauses, typed as `context-value` (flag, number or text), in the window the call came from or every window outside a command or event; a window's value wins over the global one. Keys are 1-64 of `A-Za-z0-9_-`, at most 100 per plugin, kept across window reloads and idle reclaim, dropped when the plugin stops or the window closes; remote windows get them through the dispatcher. The Rust SDK takes `impl Into<ContextValue>`. All components are rebuilt for the WIT change.

Quitting from the Dock, the system's app menu or a logout terminated OpenIDEA at once, skipping the exit, running-process and unsaved-changes prompts: tao's application delegate doesn't implement applicationShouldTerminate:. The delegate now cancels that termination unless a quit is already in progress and runs the same quit as Cmd+Q; cancelling a prompt keeps the app running.
Closing a window stops what its project started, but a quit that exits without closing the windows first (the Dock's Quit, a logout) left every run's process tree alive: a server kept its port and the next run failed with "port already in use". The desktop exit handler now kills every run's process tree and every terminal shell, as the remote server's shutdown already does.
Fixes#1691
During a live resize AppKit lays out and draws the title bar inside each drag event and resets the window buttons to their defaults, moving the zoom button without a frame change notification. Correcting the frames afterwards from a run loop observer let every step draw the default positions first, so the buttons kept jittering while the window edge was held.
The window now gets an empty unified toolbar, compact or regular to match the web title bar height, so AppKit lays out and centres the buttons itself and nothing moves them afterwards. The run loop observer and the manual frame corrections are removed.
WebKitGTK's DMA-BUF renderer fails on a Wayland session with the NVIDIA driver ("Error 71 (Protocol error) dispatching to Wayland display") and the app exits before showing a window. On that combination WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 is set at startup unless the user already set it.
* perf(vfs): list directories off the main thread and reuse the repository lookup
Opening a folder on a network share (\\wsl.localhost\<distro>\...) is slow
because every listing ran on the main thread and walked up to the repository
root and ran a repository discovery again.
- fs_read_dir runs on the blocking pool.
- GitignoreStack::cached keeps the repository root and the repo-level rules
for a few seconds. An edit of .git/info/exclude is still seen at once (its
mtime and size are checked) and every .gitignore / .ignore is read fresh.

* feat(remote): open WSL projects through a WSL transport
A folder of a WSL distro (\\wsl.localhost\<distro>\... or \\wsl$\...) now opens
as a remote project whose openidea-server runs inside the distro, so the
terminal, SDK discovery, run, language servers and git are native Linux.
- RemoteTarget (ssh | wsl) replaces the SSH configuration id in the remote
launch, connection, session and recents; old recents are read as SSH and a
WSL target never inherits the legacy trust migration.
- remote_wsl: probe the distro, stream the server into ~/.openidea/server and
start it with `wsl.exe -d <distro> --exec <bin> --stdio`. Distro names are
validated and every command goes through --exec with positional arguments.
- wsl_distros / wsl_resolve commands; File > Open, the CLI and recents route
WSL folders to the distro and focus the window that already has them.
- Remote Development dialog: SSH/WSL choice with the detected distros; the
status bar shows `WSL: <distro>` / `SSH: <host>`.
- ide-jsonrpc: skip the NUL left at the start of a line by UTF-16 output of
wsl.exe, which made the first message of the server disappear.
Not run on Windows yet: only a stand-in for wsl.exe is tested.

* fix(remote): satisfy clippy in WSL output decoding
* style(run): format run types
* fix: regenerate bindings and drop untranslated WSL catalog entry
* test(i18n): list WSL as an untranslated product name
* fix(run): pick build wrappers and shell quoting by the execution host
A remote window runs commands on its Linux or macOS server, so a Windows
desktop no longer selects gradlew.bat, mvnw.cmd or Windows quoting for it.
* fix(welcome): open legacy WSL UNC recents and sessions through the distro
Recents and the restored session called the local openProject for a
\\wsl.localhost folder saved before WSL projects, which fails with OS
error 123. They now resolve it like the other entry points.
* fix(windows): keep WSL files out of remote project launches
path_launch tested the WSL share before is_dir, so a first-instance CLI
launch with a WSL file opened a remote project instead of LightEdit.
* fix(remote): run-command OS comes from the remote host, not an assumption
The server's OS was dropped after connect, so a restored session had none and
isWindows() assumed every remote host is Unix. Keep it on the connection and
the session, and resolve it through hostOs().

Debug launches (also second instances that only hand over a path) exported the bindings and rewrote an unchanged src/bindings.ts, which made Vite reload the running app's windows. The bindings now go to a temporary file first and the source file is replaced only when it differs.
Merged project windows are separate native windows that take turns being visible. Hidden members kept their own earlier frame and monitor, so the first switch after merging, and any switch after moving or resizing the window, moved or resized the window on screen; a maximized member could appear on another display. The group now copies the selected window's frame and display to the hidden members after a selection and after the visible window is moved or resized (debounced), skips copies when the frame already matches, and leaves macOS simple fullscreen to its own path, so switching projects only changes which window is visible.

Compare with Local, Compare Versions and the other revision comparisons open in a separate window that belongs to their project window. The window can be moved outside the main window, resized from its edges and corners, and shows the full diff. Edits made there and in the project window are mirrored both ways.
Root cause of #798: the comparison was an in-window dialog with a fixed size.
Settings and comparison windows now share one auxiliary-window mechanism (`AuxKind`, `open_auxiliary_window`). It handles labels, the title bar, placement over the parent, event forwarding, document-edit mirroring, menu routing, closing together with the parent, and remembered geometry per kind.

`openidea --line 120 --column 8 <file>` opens the file at that position (1-based; without --column the line start; clamped). The position is kept by file until the window that opens it takes its launch: new instance, second instance, a project open elsewhere, an already open file. The path argument skips these flags' values.

A plugin system built on WebAssembly components (wasmtime, WASI p2), with a
typed WIT API (`openidea:[email protected]`) and a Rust SDK, shipped as a preview.
- Extension points declared in `plugin.toml` (commands, languages, themes,
icon themes, menus, key bindings, status items, settings, views, custom
editors, file icons and templates, run detectors, editor providers),
validated before anything takes effect and projected onto the workbench's
own registries: plugin themes and file icon themes are chosen in
Settings › Appearance and Quick Switch, plugin shortcuts are edited in
Settings › Keymap, plugin problems are grouped in Settings › Inspections.
- Capabilities with risk levels and consent at install, pinned `process:`
programs, secrets in the OS keychain.
- Runtime: one thread per active plugin, fuel/time/memory budgets, soft and
hard deadlines on the editing path, cancellation, crash backoff, idle
reclaim, a precompiled-component cache; remote projects run code plugins on
`openidea-server`.
- Web views and custom editors with a sandboxed page, a document bridge
joined to the text editor's undo history, and split or preview layouts.
- Distribution: signed `.oiplugin` packages, a static marketplace index with
revocation, versioned installs with rollback, install from a `.zip` or a
folder. The release workflow signs and publishes the official plugins and
their index, which released builds use as the default marketplace.
- Official plugins: String Tools, Key Promoter, Git Toolbox, AI Completion,
Checkstyle, MyBatis Navigator, CSV Editor, Solidity, Material Icons, Harbor
Night, Excalidraw, Graphviz, Regex Tester, License Header.

Multi-file refactorings could drop LSP document versions, overwrite content changed after a preview, or leave earlier files saved after a later write failed. Workspace edits now keep server versions and preview fingerprints, are validated on a staging copy, snapshot disk and open buffers, and roll back on commit failure (retaining recovery files if rollback fails). The whole edit is one Undo/Redo step in editors and in the notification. Version reads and transaction work run off the async workers. Closes#461.

Project windows only joined a tab group when merged explicitly or restored at startup; the macOS "Prefer tabs when opening documents" setting was never read, so opening another project or a workspace always created a separate window.
New project windows now follow that preference: with Always they join the active project window's tab group (forming one if needed) and are selected; with In Full Screen they do so only while the active window is full screen; with Manually they stay separate. This covers every path that creates a project window — Open, recent projects, workspaces, drag and drop, and opening from the command line or Finder — while LightEdit windows and restored groups keep their behaviour. New Workspace now opens through the same Open project in policy as Open Workspace, and a race when toggling full screen during the join is fixed.
Fixes#678
* fix(windows): keep maximized windows within the work area
* fix(windows): constrain final maximized outer placement
* Revert "fix(windows): constrain final maximized outer placement"
This reverts commit e481c900ca.
On Linux the window-state plugin restored the saved size before GTK's decorations and output scale had settled, so the saved physical inner size went through the creation-time CSD/scale conversion and drifted on every restart (52 px per axis under Mutter, the remembered size collapsing on other setups), and maximize transitions overwrote the remembered normal size.
Linux now builds project and settings windows hidden and restores them after the first configure, keeping the normal size apart from maximize, fullscreen and minimize, protecting it during transitions, and snapshotting each window before close instead of querying GTK during exit. The state file format is unchanged; macOS and Windows keep the plugin as before.
Verified under Mutter and Weston: three restarts at 1234×678, three maximized restarts followed by unmaximize, the settings window, several project windows across a full exit, and window groups all restore exactly. macOS restore is unchanged. Not run: GNOME on real hardware, mixed-DPI monitors, X11.

On macOS versions where WKWebView refuses user-installed fonts by family name (fonts in ~/Library/Fonts or /Library/Fonts), the editor, terminal, Markdown and UI fell back to the default font and Nerd Font icons showed as boxes; only a webfont loaded from the file's bytes renders.
Root cause: the shared font resolver only ever referred to fonts by local family name, so every consumer depended on the WebView resolving user fonts by name. A URL-based webfont is blocked by the existing font-src policy, which stays unchanged.
Fix: the shared resolver probes whether a family renders by name (on a document-attached canvas; a detached canvas falls back even when the font works) and only when it does not, fetches the enumerated user font files over a raw-bytes IPC (user fonts only, looked up by family, no paths accepted) and registers them with the FontFace API under a stable alias. Only the faces nearest regular/bold and their italics are loaded, once per family. Covers editor and editor fallback, diff/merge views, terminal font, fallback and built-in Nerd fallback (re-measured after loading), embedded terminal, settings preview, custom UI font, Markdown and Mermaid. A debug-only environment switch reproduces the WebView restriction for testing.
Verified on macOS 26 with the restriction simulated (icons boxes before, correct after) and without it (no font bytes transferred, no regression). Not run on the reporter's macOS version, Windows or Linux; other platforms keep the previous behaviour.
Fixes#592
Running Spring Boot main-class configurations had no Update action, and incremental Java builds did not publish edited resources to the running JVM. They now share the Update action, toolbar and build runner with Tomcat: resources go through the module's Maven or Gradle build and are published to the resolved runtime classpath, including Gradle's separate jdt.ls output directory. Class updates use scoped HotSwap when available and explain the restart requirement otherwise.
Both configuration types get "On 'Update' action" and "On frame deactivation" policies. A missing policy keeps the chooser and does no deactivation update. Focus tracking debounces external changes and prevents overlapping updates.
Verified on macOS with Maven, Gradle, Tomcat 10.1 and HotSwap. Windows and Linux focus detection were not run. On Linux a native GTK dialog can count as deactivation when no webview window is focused.
Fixes#580
Authorization for a remote window resumes on a Tokio worker, so the generated handler ran synchronous commands there, including ones reaching AppKit such as the clipboard check, while local windows run them on the main thread. The handler is now dispatched back to the main thread after authorization, and the request is rejected if dispatch fails.
Two app aborts seen in remote windows unwound through this task. The abort was not reproduced and its throw site is unconfirmed. Logging confirmed the thread change. An audit found no remote-only blocking path in the synchronous commands that move to the main thread.
IDE zoom changed the toolbar height while the macOS window buttons stayed at a fixed vertical position. The buttons are now centred in the title bar using its measured height and the zoom, and repositioned after AppKit layout updates. Zooming out keeps enough room for them so they do not cover the project icon, and compact mode follows the same alignment.
Windows align from the saved zoom and compact setting when they are built, so the buttons do not move once the page loads. The height uses the zoom the webview applies, so an out-of-range setting cannot misplace them.
Projects now open with a user-owned trust decision. The prompt offers Preview in Restricted Mode, Don't Open and Trust Project, with an optional trusted parent folder; preview is the default focus so Enter never grants trust.
Restricted projects keep browsing, editing, saving, search and highlighting. Project-controlled execution is denied by default in the backend: run, debug, build, tools, language servers, plugins and Git commands that could honour repository configuration. Trusting a project enables those paths without reopening it, and decisions can be revoked in Settings.
Terminals stay available when the user opens one, without project shell settings, environment or virtualenv activation. A shell prompt that runs git in the folder can still honour the repository's core.fsmonitor.
Fixes#462
Workspaces open several local project folders in one IDE session (File › New / Open / Manage Workspace…, or Attach when opening a project, which creates a workspace automatically for a plain project window). Member folders are the Project view roots and take part in indexing, Find in Files, Git, language servers, run configurations and builds; agent tasks choose which member they work in. Window › Merge All Project Windows groups project windows into one window with project tabs (switch, reorder, close, move to a new window), restored on reopen.

Opens .ipynb files in a native notebook editor, in a project or LightEdit.
- crates/ide-notebook: lossless nbformat documents (unchanged notebooks save byte-for-byte, unknown fields kept, external changes detected) and owned local kernels over ZMQ via kernelspec — the selected Python environment only needs ipykernel, no Jupyter server.
- ide-host owns notebook documents per project incarnation and admits one execution batch at a time; outputs stream over IPC channels and kernel status is an IdeEvent.
- src/features/notebook: virtualized Python/Markdown cells, insert/delete/move/change type, Run Cell / Run All (Shift+Enter), interrupt, restart, interpreter selection from ide-sdk discovery, shared split views. Raw/unknown cells stay read-only.
- Custom editor kinds take part in dirty state, save/save all, undo/redo and Save/Don't Save/Cancel; closing editors from other features awaits that decision.
- Outputs: text, tracebacks, PNG/JPEG and sanitized SVG inline; HTML sanitized in a sandboxed iframe without allow-same-origin; JavaScript output is shown as inert source.
- Explicit launches (opening a notebook from the OS) win over session restoration.

On macOS, OpenIDEA is now listed under Finder's Open With for text and source files and for folders. It never becomes the default app for any of them: all document types are declared with rank Alternate, and only in tauri.macos.conf.json, so Windows and Linux installers register nothing.
Files opened from Finder, the Dock or a second instance share one routing path (plan_open). A file inside a local project that is already open, or still opening, goes to that project's window, choosing the deepest root when projects are nested. Any other file goes to the existing single-file window, or to a new one. A folder focuses the window that already has it open, otherwise it opens as a project. Paths that arrive before setup are queued and opened with the first launch.
The single-file window now closes with its last tab, restores its files the next time it opens, and only offers Open File and drop hints when empty. Also fixes a regression: reopening projects on startup no longer replaces a file opened at cold start.
Refs #128
Files can now be opened without a project. A file dropped on the Welcome screen, picked with File › Open File…, or passed on the command line or to a second instance opens in a lightweight window: editor tabs only, with no project tree, indexing, language servers, VCS or project tool windows. Syntax highlighting, find, save, undo and Local History still work. More files opened later join the same window as new tabs. Open as Project in the status bar opens the file's directory as a full project, following the open-project policy, and reopens the file there.
Backend: a light session reuses Project with an unindexed index, no LSP or VCS, and a flat watch on each opened file's directory. It is never reused as a project for the same root. Previously a file passed at launch opened its parent directory as a project.
Adds Solarized Light, Solarized Dark, One Light and One Dark as built-in themes across the workbench, editor, terminal and Mermaid, keeping the original palettes (MIT notices in THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md, mapping in docs/themes.md).
- Native window colours are read from tokens.css at build time (`theme_frame.rs`) instead of a second colour table.
- Startup restores the built-in palette before first paint.
- Editor schemes, the terminal and Mermaid refresh on switches between themes of the same kind.
- The plugin packages of the same themes are removed.
- A test requires every built-in palette theme to define each token (only listed ones may inherit from the base theme), so new tokens can't silently miss them.

Root cause: the IDE only detected installed JDKs and had no way to get one, so any launch needing a newer JDK than the machine has (latest jdtls needs JDK 25) dead-ended in an error.
Fix: IDEA-style Download JDK (Eclipse Temurin via the Adoptium API, sha256-verified, reusing ide-tools' download/verify code; Windows zip, Linux tar.gz, macOS Contents/Home) into <app-data>/tools/jdks, registered with JDK discovery and rescanned after each download. "Download JDK…" in the Project SDK and Language Server JDK pickers; a one-click `java.downloadJdk` "Download JDK N" on "needs JDK N" errors, which also repoints a too-old language server JDK and restarts jdtls.
Siblings: language server status popup, jdtls launch notification, run console classpath error, debug launch, run configurations without a JDK ≥ the module's Java version, Maven/Gradle sync failures, single-file Java run without `java` on PATH.
Verified in the app on macOS: vendor/version/location queries, the Download JDK dialog from the Language Server JDK picker, a real Temurin 25.0.5 download that runs. Not verified on Windows/Linux.

Project windows are created in setup with the saved theme's frame colour, and the splash covers the first render while the launch project opens, so a window no longer flashes white or the Welcome screen. Single-instance is now release-only so a dev build can run beside an installed release.
